Dynamic Progressive Kiln for Holzwerke Ladenburger

A record-breaking project for Mühlböck

Five progressive kilns DYNAMIC 1306 PRO go to Germany

Holzwerke Ladenburger / Kerkingen (Germany)

Until 2025, five Mühlböck progressive kilns built in Eberschwang (Upper Austria) will be delivered to Holzwerke Ladenburger in Kerkingen (Germany) in two stages. Among others, the wood drying specialist from the Innviertel region owes this lucrative contract – at more than ten million Euros the largest project in the company’s history – to the energy-efficient technology of its systems and the tailored implementation of customer requirements such as a customised transport system.

Mühlböck reports to have signed the largest individual project in its history. In late 2022, Holzwerke Ladenburger (Germany) ordered five Mühlböck progressive kilns for its Kerkingen site, amounting to a project sum of more than ten million Euros. Holzwerke Ladenburger is one of Germany's largest producers of solid structural timber (KVH) and glulam (BSH), employing some 800 people at four locations in Germany.

The company ordered five Mühlböck DYNAMIC 1306 PRO series progressive kilns, which will be installed at the Kerkingen sawmill in two stages over the course of the next few years: First, two progressive kilns for glualm are supposed to reach operational status by mid-2024 (combined drying capacity approx. 121,000 m³/a). During stage 2, three additional progressive kilns for solid structural timber are to be launched by early 2025 (combined drying capacity approx. 144,000 m³/a). “Apart from the agreed delivery time, which is optimal for us, the guaranteed drying results and Mühlböck's technical expertise, the energy efficiency of the DYNAMIC 1306 PRO progressive kilns was a decisive factor for us,” Dr. Christoph Rettenmeier, Authorised Signatory and Project Manager at Ladenburger, stresses. “Thus, the new progressive kilns perfectly blend into our company's focus on resource preservation and climate protection.”

Reduced energy consumption and high drying quality
Thanks to their innovative heat recovery system, Mühlböck's DYNAMIC progressive kilns achieve particularly a high efficiency in this version: Depending on drying batch, outside temperature and other factors, the 1306 PRO drying system's heat consumption savings are listed at up to 25%. “Additionally, Mühlböck's K5 controls, combined with the IntelliVent system guarantee that differences in initial moisture content are dried to the precisely defined final moisture at constant cycle times,” Mühlböck points out another benefit for the customer. Together with gentle drying in a progressive kiln, this allows for maximum quality at best possible moisture spread.

Many benefits thanks to individual transport solution
Another special technical feature ordered by Holzwerke Ladenburger is the transport system designed by Mühlböck. The innovative charging and conveying system was also extended by a package return system especially according to customer requirements and will in the future ensure fully automatic transport of the wood stacks throughout the entire drying process. “This individual solution enables our customer to minimise forklift traffic in his production process and to optimally integrate the progressive kilns into his production flow,” says Richard Mühlböck, Managing Director of Mühlböck. The entire conveying system is protected from the weather by a roof. Moreover, this solution reduces internal transport and personnel demand in the drying area and significantly reduces noise emissions at Holzwerke Ladenburger.
